Remedies in Troubled Times
1. Snarky Puppy. I've started with their GroundUp documentary and they're absolutely amazing. Old news for many, I know, but I heard an interview with Mark Lettieri on Rhett Shull's podcast and fell down that rabbit hole.
Said rabbit hole also contained 2. Fearless Flyers and 3. Vulfpeck. Also amazing, although I can find the latter somewhat saccharine at times. Outrageously talented.
4. Playing music after listening to said bands.
5. Rediscovering the joys of an old guitar you've barely touched in the past ten years. Solid body, despite your love of the hollow bodied blonde you're musically betrothed to.
6. Playing said guitar through an Xotic ep booster and marvelling at the wonderful colour and life in tone.
7. Scripture, which continues to give so much, with such deadly and deadly and decisive relevance and poignancy that it still shocks me.
8. Family life, when the peace of Christ permeates the home in a way that only His presence can bring.
In particular 9. In the wake of the day, with the little ones down and the eldest reading in a silent cluster, scattered across the couches.
10. Removing unnecessary steps in the creative process to just get the work out, rather than trying to capture and keep things, unnecessarily. One less step has made every difference.
11. Figuring out how to use Day One on an Android device.
