Film Festival of Sorts
Last night, New Years eve, I finally watched Hitchcock’s Vertigo, utterly impressed by the plot twists, cinematography and pacing of the whole thing. I’ve been digging Rear Window for some years now, and quite enjoyed ‘I Confess,’ but Vertigo was something else entirely. The subplot with Georgie seemed a little out of place, but I must admit that Kim Novak was utterly entrancing as a leading lady. Being Christmastide, I rewatched It’s A Wonderful Life, having been converted by a zealous Patrick Coffin, whose love for the film is as palpable as it is infectious. I had to admit that it’s every bit as charming as he says it is. Something other than Jimmy Stewart, was The Ten Commandments, which while yes, feels dated at times, was still so rich and affective. The performances in the film were something else, and make most modern turns seem so wooden, lifeless and mundane.
Began reading A Farewell to Arms, and still working through In Jesu Sinu. Setting aside Flannery O’Connor for the moment, but will return to the odd story here and there to mix it up.
Praying for those affected by fires, homes lost, lives upturned, with some solace in the Solemnity of Our Lady, Mother of God. May the mediatrix of all graces beg her son for peace, safety and healing for all those affected.
