For some reason, a world in crisis almost makes more sense, in some way. I cannot capably explain it, and perhaps I fear to even try. The faith is certainly emboldened, sharpened and loses all laxity when the sword hangs over us.

The faith is certainly emboldened, sharpened and loses all laxity when the sword hangs over us. The excesses of life are cut away. The question of life and death gains clarity, relevance, immediacy. Christ calls out through the mess and noise of course: be not afraid. Yes Lord, you respond, and there are no excuses for your mistrust, your alarm.

We all know that God chastises, corrects, cleanses. What we may never know is how much he wills, and how much he permits. In the end, is there a difference? The only difference lies in the spiritual fruits borne of such a calamity.
