Alas, young people today
Anyone with a seeming cause for concern regarding the industriousness of today’s youth are encouraged to build and erect a milking shed for their Nigerian Dwarf goats. It becomes wonderfully apparent that they’ll apply themselves selflessly and assiduously, which may or may not pleasantly surprise the onlooker, given the original function and intent of their skepticism. There are too many who walk the earth that would gladly condemn and cast off every generation that follows their own, with the certainty that they could never live up the to virtue, discipline and glory of their contemporaries.
It’s far too nihilistic and self serving in my opinion. I’ve seen, known and admired far too many younger than myself to hold my own generation as superior in any given way. Of course, none of us have had a world war, or a great depression to forge our spirits in the crucible of suffering and sacrifice. But enough of the young people I know love Christ, His Holy Church and His Blessed Mother enough to humble me with their supplication and devotion. Children and teenagers at adoration are similarly poignant examples. Despair can seem so banal when you see them silent, prostrate, or recollected.
